Essential Job Duties:

This position reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Equal Opportunity and Equity. The main responsibilities of the Assistant Equal Opportunity Officer are to assist with the educational, investigative, and compliance efforts of the Equal Opportunity and Equity unit in the OIED.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

• Investigates and mediates complaints of discrimination from students, faculty and staff at NC State; serves as investigator with providing prompt, confidential and appropriate resolution to complaints.
• Educates the NC State community about affirmative action, equal opportunity laws, harassment, discrimination and other equal opportunity issues.
• Develops and analyzes ad hoc and standardized data reports related to compliance activities, equal opportunity initiatives, outreach and education, etc.
•Develops, maintains, and reviews resource materials for the Equal Opportunity and Equity’s educational endeavors and outreach activities.
• Develops, maintains, and implements of training programs.
• Partners with the Associate Vice Provost on affirmative action planning, and utilization and analysis of data (including data entry), and approving employment actions consistent with NC State policies.
• Facilitates interactive process for employees seeking disability-based accommodations.

Minimum Education/Experience

-A minimum of a Masters/JD degree in human resource management, public administration or a related field is required plus one year experience working in the area of law, mediation, human resources, diversity or a related field.

-Experience with complaint investigation or dispute resolution is required.

-Position requires experience with implementation of affirmative action/equal opportunity laws (Title VII, Title IX, ADA, etc.), policies, and processes.

-Experience with creating and implementing training/outreach programs is required.
Departmental Required Skills

-Necessary skills include excellent communication (both oral and written), research, public speaking, investigation and mediation.

-Ability to maintain confidentiality, problem-solve, and use responsible independent judgment are required, as well as a demonstrated commitment to the principles of affirmative action and equal opportunity.

-Experience with Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel are necessary.

-Skill in infusing equity-related ideals into the community through innovative programming
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

-Successful grant writing, performing statistical analyses, and professional work in a higher education environment.

-Experience with affirmative action planning, and/or determining disability-based accommodations is preferred.
